Week 2: How can PLN's be used for educators?

Assigned Reflection:
Reflect on the searching you did on Personal Learning Networks and how they might be used as educators. Back up your reflection by referring or linking to content you find.

Under "Home" I posted a YouTube video. I was unable to get the video to link directly from this post. However, the video I have shared does a great job outlining various PLN options for educators. Not only does the lady inform you of the different PLN's for educators, but she shares quick ways for you to implement them in your classroom. She mentions in her conclusion to "step outside your comfort zone" and allow the students to explore. She nailed it for me. I know there are many things I would like to try in my classroom, but it is the jumping in and trying it out that holds me back countless times. I need to just take the plunge!

A blog for instance. What a great way to create a PLN for my second graders, or students at any level. Not only for the students, but what a great way for parents to see what their students are doing instantly. My fear and main hold back is "permission." Who do I need to have permission from to start a classroom blog? Parents? Administration?

A blog would not only be beneficial for students, but how helpful could it be for our building or district to have a blog? I am not sure that all staff would understand at first, but I think it could be very beneficial.

Watching the video on YouTube really made me start thinking "outside the box" and want to start making some leaps! Before I know it, it is going to be summer and my class will no longer be with me on a daily basis! Just trying to think where I want to start!

  1. I love your idea of creating a PLN for students. After all, this is the world they will live in. In our school Canvas at the high school, parents have access to their students' accounts, so I think it's a great idea for your blog as well. Being transparent is the key to success :)
